What are you doing Labor Day weekend? Going to the beach? Cooking out? The Ribbon Riders are putting their butts on the line, again! Literally. Several women motorcyclists – yes, women - are saddling up to ride 1,000 miles in less than 24 hours. Covering that much ground in that short of a time is called an “Iron Butt” ride. Members of the Iron Butt Association are called the world’s toughest riders.
So why are we doing an Iron Butt? If you have to be tough to do an Iron Butt endurance ride, you have to be even tougher to battle breast cancer.
These same women were the first women’s motorcycle organization to ride an Iron Butt in 2009, and repeated the feat in 2010. They’re getting ready to saddle up again! This is the Ribbon Riders’ Third Annual 1000 Miles for Breast Cancer. This year we also have the Half-Ass portion of our ride – several other women will ride 500 miles with our Iron Butt crew.
Now we don’t expect you to get in the saddle and the only butt pain you might feel is a tiny pinch as you sponsor us on the ride. We know times are hard and dollars are hard to come by. So we’re asking for one dollar from every person we meet. You can spare a dollar, right? But every dollar we collect is distributed to women in the Central Florida area battling breast cancer. You donation can make a difference in a woman’s life. How cool is that?
These women are members of the Ribbon Riders - a women’s motorcycle organization in central Florida. Ribbon Riders raise money to help breast cancer patients in central Florida with the immediate costs of breast cancer treatment – medicine, co-pays, insurance premiums, transportation, even groceries. We believe these women need to focus on recovery, not on worry of unpaid expenses.
So before Labor Day Weekend, all you have to do is toss in a buck. And come Saturday, September 3rd, we’ll do the work. We’ll do the riding. We’ll start before dawn and our goal is to finish our 1,000 miles well before midnight. And then we’ll let you know how we did.
Got a buck? Please help us reach our goal to raise $1000 ($1 a mile). Secure donations can be made by clicking on the "Donate" button. No donation too small...or too large.
